Some actors (for example; Robert De Niro and most recently-Renee Zellweger), chose to gain extra body weight for their roles in their movies. They successfully gained weight for a particular role, and after the movie has been completed, in a short time, they quickly lost the previously gained weight, and regained their previous appearance.
For “Obesity Scientists” of all kinds (doctors, health guru, health activist, science correspondents, and most of the public in general) it is one proof for them, that everyone who gains weight can lose this weight following this guideline; for weight loss eat less – exercise more. (But, such thinking is terribly wrong!)
The examples of weight gain and weight loss among a few actors strengthen almost every ones pre-existing belief in the theory which says that to gain weight, we must eat more and exercise less, and to lose weight, we must eat less and exercise more (“a simple mater of balance”…?).
Question; when millions of people of all age try unsuccessfully to lose weight, how is it possible that some actors are able, seemingly so easily, gain and lose their body weight?
- Before an actor or an actress starts to try to gain weight for their role, he or she already has in mind a picture of a particular overweight character.
- Before he or she gains any extra weight, he or she already tries to act in every day life (rehearsals) like a particular overweight character. This involves imitating body postures (standing posture, sitting posture, walking, posture, running posture) and way of walking, way of running, (walking and running gait) and in general, every aspect of motion of a particular overweight character.
- The change in the body posture and in walking and running gait causes change to the strength and distribution of the mechanical stimulations on the body. The change in the strength and distribution of the mechanical stimulation on the body changes the mechanism of fat formation on the body and fat distribution on the body.
Any attempt to gain weight without altering the body posture and gait pattern will be effortless.
Any attempt to lose body weight without altering the gait pattern and the body posture by sitting, standing, and by performing locomotion will be effortless.
Adopting only the menu (quantity and quality of the food) of an overweight character without adopting the way of motion (gait) and way of body posture will not produce any weight gain.
Even in cartoon movies, we can notice that all overweight characters have different body postures (standing and sitting) and different ways of motion (walking and running) compared to slender characters. It shows us that many people in the movie industry are aware of the difference in body postures and ways of motion between overweight characters and slender characters, only they think that the type of body posture and type of motion is determined by the weight of the body.
- The gait and body posture determines the body weight and shape.
- In most cases, the body weight and shape influences the gait patterns and body posture but it doesn’t determine the gait pattern and body posture.
In the real world, it is much easier to notice this fact. It needs just to have a look on the people around us and observe how they are walking and running and how they are keeping the body posture, and we will see a big difference in the way of body posture, and way of motion between overweight people and people who are of slender build.
Improvements in the sense of balance, postural stability, postural strength and motor skill ability will positively affect the habitual walking gait and the habitual body posture.
Adopting a more balanced gait by maintaining a good body posture will to a greater extent, positively affect the weight and shape and also the mental and physical wellbeing.
The question is: why will the body lose weight by adopting a more balanced gait and adopt a correct or at least better body posture?
The answer is; because the balanced gait and correct body posture will cause not only the absence of excessive mechanical stimulation on the fat tissues, but it will also cause the absence of mechanical stimulations required for the maintenance of the existing fat mass. The absence of mechanical stimulation (concerning strength and duration) on the excessive fat tissues will cause regression of the fat mass.
The change of the body posture and change of the gait will quickly produce changes in the weight and shape of the human body. This is because the change of the body posture and/or change of the gait will change the strength and the distribution of mechanical stimulations in the body.
The change of the strength of mechanical stimulations in the body is mainly caused by the change of the walking gait and change of the body posture.
The change of the distribution on the mechanical stimulations in the body is mainly caused by the change of body posture.
The presence of excessive mechanical stimulation on the fat tissues is a factor that is responsible for building new fat mass (progression of the fat mass). The excessive mechanical stimulations are produced by bad posture and poor walking gait.
Post Pregnancy Weight Loss
Many women never had a problem with excessive body weight till pregnancy, and the first time they experienced this problem of weight control was after pregnancy. The reason for this is that pregnancy causes emotional and physical changes, which cause changes in the walking gait and body posture.
The type of body posture and type of walking gait reflects the way how muscles, bones and joints work against the pull of the Earth’s gravity and on the other side; it determines the strength and the distribution of the mechanical stimulations in the human’s body.
The changes in walking gait and changes in body posture, at the same time means the change of the human’s body biomechanics. Any change in the body’s biomechanics causes changes in the body’s biochemistry.
The change of the gait and change of the body posture causes the change of the strength and distribution of the mechanical stimulations in the body, and that causes change to the body shape and weight.
Some women shortly after pregnancy do regain their pre-pregnancy walking gait and pre-pregnancy body posture, and that has the consequence of regaining the pre-pregnancy body weight and shape.
But a great number of women don’t regain their pre-pregnancy walking gait and pre pregnancy body posture, and that explains why some women have problems to control weight of their body after pregnancy, and why some other women do not have post pregnancy weight problem.
Dieting and/or physical activity or exercises designed for “burning calories” are an ineffective, and in most cases are counterproductive and in the end, all the present programs for weight loss are the products of misunderstanding the biological basis of the fat formation on the body. (The human’s body is not an internal combustion engine!)
The key to regain the pre-pregnancy body weight and shape is to regain pre-pregnancy walking gait and pre-pregnancy body posture.
Involvement in “Postural and Motor Skill Exercises” is an effective and efficient way to regain pre-pregnancy body posture and walking gait.
